The most unbelievable thing in The Bone Temple is that Ralph Fiennes likes Duran Duran AND Iron Maiden

Happy 50th birthday to my favourite Bowie album. Sorry Hunky Dory, you were my first love, but my head has been turned. Is it sacrilege to prefer the 2010 Harry Maslin Mix though? It's punchier and the vocals are to the fore, especially on TVC15.

More #NightManager ridiculousness - and yeah I am still enjoying it. Teddy Faxes Pine’s picture to Roper. He doesn’t have a picture on his phone. He’s spent weeks with the guy. No photos were at the charity reception? He’s not asked to see a picture before? Who uses fax nowadays bar Harry Redknapp

Sitting opposite two 14 year olds on the train home. Oscar and Edward. Asked politely if they could share the table so they could plug in laptops. Genuinely nice kids, genuinely funny, even if Edward described his dad - 44 - as being ‘from the stone age’

Went to see Wild At Heart in IMAX. Some young people on the way out were complaining that people were laughing. If you fail to see the humour in Lynch then it’s a sure sign of youth. I didn’t realise Blue Velvet was funny until my 30s

Today when I was getting the train to London a young man whose friend was blocking the ticket access thing asked his friend to step aside and ‘let the elderly gentleman through’. This has both restored my faith in the young and destroyed my will to live.

What a day. Quite emotional. Spoke to Donny McCaslin about Blackstar. Really moved. Sorry. I cry at a moments notice but apparently so does he

Rejected for a theatre’s new playwrights programme. They couldn’t give feedback but gave context to decision-making, stating they prioritised distinctive voice, vibrant & textured development of story, character, theme and/or form. It would’ve been less demoralising if they’d just said fuck off.

In London this weekend, busy all day Saturday until 9.30 pm. Have booked 11.00 pm tickets for The Bone Temple. At this moment in time the only seat booked in the cinema :-) But on Sunday Wild at Heart in IMAX, which is sold out.

You know in Jack and the Beanstalk when Jack sells the family cow for some magic beans? Well that's NFTs, although in this case the beans weren't magic and the family cow has already been transported elsewhere.

If you yearn for the yearning soundscapes of TalkTalk's Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock may I point you in the direction of epic45. Listening to 'Weathering' as I walk and with no dis-respect to Robert Smith these are genuinely songs from a lost world. Pylons, bird songs, distant bells, haunting.

And so The Night Manager - which I’m enjoying - reveals the big secret that was signposted in the fucking trailer in a huge flashing Olivia Colman shaped ‘you lied to me’ flashing neon sign

Hamnet's MVP after La Buckley is Max Richter's monumental score. Isolated from the visuals and dialogue, it still has the power to move
