It’s the chART virtual book launch at #outlier2025 - here’s @nadiehbremer.com and @juliebrunet.bsky.social appearing remotely, with @zanewolf.bsky.social proudly displaying the real book! Can’t wait to get hold of my copy (frustratingly 3000 miles away from me at home right now!)

This week's #dataviz book was sent to me by a former MICA classmate and I can't be more excited. Not just for learning more about #inclusivedesign but because it is awesome to have found incredible people thru MICA, WID, and DVS and we're able to share and contribute to each other's journeys.

Re #Dataviz Portfolios, early career folks are mostly concerned with making and populating one, but what do non-early-career folks struggle with re: portfolios?
Once you have one, what's next? Maintaining and updating? Updating aesthetics? Remaking it to go from personal to business?

I'm late to this discussion about #dataviz critiques, but my brain won’t let it go. I’m quoting @sonjakuijpers.bsky.social post, because something about the vibe of @elijahmeeks.bsky.social 's prompt doesn’t feel productive to me. You can see that post & more replies if you click through. 📊 1/N
This has been on my mind, is this true? 🤔
Yeah, I feel uncomfortable criticising others work because I often lack knowledge of the context and I know I feel 'attacked' myself the other way around (+still insecure on my skills). I would rather like for us to take a more positive stand 1/6

There is no growth without criticism and the stagnation we're all dealing with now in the field of data visualization is partly based on our collective discomfort with calling out meaningless and unreadable charts and diagrams because we don't want to seem mean or imply the creator is dumb.

Guinea worm used to afflict 3.5 million people each year. This year, thanks in part to Jimmy Carter, there have been 7 cases. He negotiated the longest humanitarian cease-fire in history to distribute water filters & larvicides www.scientificamerican.com/article/jimm... via @tanyalewis.bsky.social
