"The markers of status: A survey experiment on characteristics that count in status attribution"

Alisia Bauer (LMU Munich) presenting at #RC28 - stop by during the coffee breaks to know more!

Our findings support the female preference for equality and self-interest perspectives: women and respondents in lower-rewarded fields perceive greater unfairness.

Moreover, these mechanisms interact: women are especially likely to perceive unfairness when it aligns with their self-interest.

Among the highlights of this project: @filippogch.bsky.social does not entirely trust Stata graphs

We found a #cumulative #disadvantage of being female and having children on recruiters' hiring intentions. However, signalling higher social status (especially through an elite name/surname) partially #compensates for this penalty.

The wonderful Alisia Bauer presented our project (w/
@kauspurg.bsky.social LMU & G. Jasso NYU) on social status signals and their consequences.
We'll conduct 2 cross-national factorial survey experiments - we can't wait to collect the data and present our first results!

My 1st #PAA2024 was amazing! 🏙️
Had the chance to discuss discrimination (w/ @filippogch.bsky.social & Barbieri), singlehood (w/ @beatricecaniglia.bsky.social & Barbieri) and gender ineq. in paid/unpaid work (w/ @mattepiol.bsky.social) with great people

(My surname sounds kind of fun in the US btw)

And here is @beatricecaniglia.bsky.social with her amazing presentation of our work (w/ P. Barbieri) on the gendered role of career for lifelong singlhood at her very first appearance at an international conference (LIVES) - she totally nailed it!

Keep an eye on her 😉

Have you worked on the relationship between paid and unpaid work? Then your paper could be part of our meta-analysis!

If you happen to be at the LIVES Conference, feel free to bother @mattepiol.bsky.social (supported by Olga Leshchenko in the photo) with lots of harsh comments at the poster session
