All the new followers I am gaining here due to the mass exodus from the non-bird place to here has really done something for my ego.

Is anyone else having mixed feelings about our green November? It’s been 209 days since Winnipeg has had snow on the ground. The longest amount of time since we began keeping records in 1872.

Forgot Bluesky existed for a bit and was confused this morning by the butterfly in my phone.

I don’t know why pepper is regarded at the same level as salt when it comes to seasonings. It’s a great seasoning, one of the best, really – but it is nothing compared to salt.

Nuance is dead. And we (the social internet) have killed it. If we say one group is precious in the eyes of God, all people hear is that the other is despised. If we say one group contains evil and wicked people, all they hear is that the other must be wholly pure. Let the reader understand.

One of my favourite things about Winnipeg is that we didn't rip out our mature communities to put in freeways in the '60's, and one of my least favourite things is that we did rip out (or more often just paved over) our streetcar system in the '50's. We really just can't catch a break.

It’s almost unbelievable that the incumbent political party in my province has placed front and centre in it’s platform that it will not (and will never) investigate a potential serial killer who is targeting indigenous women. Really just preposterous stuff, like something out of a comic book.

Unironically, I clutch onto this promise, sometimes with white knuckles.

The correct Christian response to the seemingly constant political "culture wars" of our day must be to not engage in it, right? Like, shouldn't we, as we seek to fight against injustice and sin in our world, do so in a distinctly Christian way, through the church, and not the political realm/means?

As good as an inaugural post as any would be to shout out Fr. William Turney, the Priest of St. Michael and All Angels' in Fort Rouge until 1961. A defender of pedestrians in Winnipeg during its industrialization. Pictured here in 1959, crossing Graham at Smith, against the 'Don't Walk' sign.
