Her sister was a vigilante herself, a Scarlet Shadow, in a famous red cloak. When she was killed, and Vira was framed for it (she blames herself, but only for not protecting her), she took the mantle of Scarlet Shadow herself (cloak not pictured, I came up with it later)

Considering that it's from 2003, it's still probably miles ahead of its contemporaries
