Despite how often the country argues about tax, there’s actually a strong cross-party consensus that the UK’s long and outdated tax code is in much need of improvement – and there’s even agreement about what some changes could do to simplify tax and improve growth.

Today, we join in silence to honour those who sacrificed everything for our country and our rights. We must never take the freedoms that we enjoy today for granted.

I asked George Osborne this morning why the Conservative coalition cut Sure Start centres that young families depended on. He said there was a “feeling” at the time that they weren’t cost-effective. Many families across the country would’ve “felt” differently. (1/3)

It's been 75 years since we rebuilt the House of Commons chamber after it was destroyed in the Second World War. Yesterday I joined the Speaker of the House along with the rest of my colleagues in Parliament to mark the occasion. (1/2)

Stewart Kenny, one of the co-founders of Paddy Power, told me on the Treasury Select Committee today that he regrets many parts of the industry that he once led. (1/4)

After a kind request from the librarians, I’ve placed a copy of my nonfiction novel Private Revolutions in the House of Commons library – I hope my colleagues across the House might enjoy it 🙂 (1/2)

“Let down by the system and constantly feeling tired of fighting a never-ending battle.”

That’s how, one of my constituents, Megan, described her experience of the SEND system to me. Last month I held a consultation on SEND, which was attended by over 60 parents, children and practitioners.

Too many residents in our constituency are paying high property management fees. I led a meeting in Parliament questioning Jonathan Smith, the CEO of Trinity Property Group, which manages Shinfield Gardens and Shinfield Meadows in our constituency.

Hi everyone! On the afternoon of Saturday November 1st, I will be hosting another community catch up, this time in Whitley. It’s a chance to meet with me and the rest of the community, where we talk about our area in groups. (1/2)

We need more room for GPs to expand in south and east Reading! I went to speak to our regional head of NHS Property Services in Parliament last week to discuss what I can do to help grow GP surgeries and healthcare centre access our constituency. What’s been your experience of your GP surgery?

Last month, I met with the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh branch in Reading, where we tied rakhis together to thank our emergency services. Thank you to them, I am still wearing my rakhi! (2/2)

Women are now 46% of the Parliamentary Labour Party – partly as a result of the work of Labour Women's Network, who gave me the support and training I needed to put myself forward. I was really glad to pay that support back by speaking at their rally at the Labour Party Conference!

This week I called for full investigations into the deaths of journalists and aid workers in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli military.

Journalists in Gaza have been targeted and over 1,500 humanitarian workers have been killed, with almost no accountability.

This week I raised constituents’ concerns about extending Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) terms for Hong Kong BNO and Skilled Worker visas.

Many Hongkongers have fled political repression to come to the UK – a country they have deep historic ties with. (1/2)

Confused about government bond yields? Here’s the independent Bank of England governor explaining to us at Treasury Committee what’s happening (and why the picture is more nuanced - and not so unusual!)

Congratulations to Reading's University Medical Group, who were recently given the Gold Pride in Practice Award by the LGBT foundation!

However, many constituents have shared concerns about ongoing barriers to gender-affirming care.

My question to the equalities minister👇

Yesterday in Parliament, I raised the case of my former @financialtimes.com colleague who is stuck in Gaza and is starving. Too many journalists have been killed in targeted attacks by the Israeli military. (1/2)
