In October 1999, Hassett coauthored a book that purportedly calculated that the DJIA (then at 10,273) was grossly undervalued, and would hit 36,000 by 2002–04.
On October 9, 2002, the Dow closed at 7,286.27.
The index did not reach 36,000 until November 1, 2021.
