“When and how should the decent, rule-abiding members of American society start ignoring those rules in order to survive?”

That’s the question that’s been on my mind lately.

@wegmansofficial.bsky.social C’mon, Wegmans. You’re better than this. You need to drop the biometrics initiative now. No amount of security is worth the invasion of privacy you’re committing, nor the liability you’ll incur over the inevitable data breach when it happens.

1,000% this! I read the backlash here on Bluesky before I read the interview and was shocked in retrospect by everyone’s reactions. We need to realize we’re on the same side and that progress is the result of BOTH personal advocacy and political pragmatism in careful measure. Dial it back, folks.

I have a hard time believing that moderate conservatives and independents, or even many liberals, realize just how dramatically out to lunch the MAGA crowd is. And if, in fact, they do, why can’t we compete with this? Why is THIS more compelling than honesty, decency, and fairness?

That bit in your high school history textbook about why nobody in 1930s Germany stopped Hitler?

You’re living it, right now.

Media manipulation. Creating and exploiting public resentment and insecurity. Squelching dissent. It’s all rampant.

General strike. Right now. It may already be too late.

I’ve never found him particularly funny, but Jimmy Kimmel has always had serious guts and stands up for the right things. It’s time the rest of us started following his example.

Here’s a fact that no one wants to face:

We are NOT going to be able to wait until the election in 2026 to stop that asshole from a total authoritarian take over of this country.

The TX capitulation is proof of that.

This is a perspective I’ve certainly given some thought to, but never ascribed such significance. Perhaps this “culture war” really is a fight over ideology first and “simply” bettering people’s situations isn’t enough by itself. But if it’s a war of ideas they want, we can and should win.
