We report photochromic macrocyclic Y(III) and Dy(III) complexes that switch between merocyanine and spiropyran form. Structural and theoretical studies reveal how these complexes could lead to photoswitchable single-molecule magnets!

We show how lanthanide ions luminescence from visible to NIR can be controlled using photochromic DTE–β-diketonate ligands.
Most of all, we reveal the crucial role of DTE's triplet states in both luminescence sensitization and quenching!

We report a light-responsive Eu(III) complex with red luminescence switched ON/OFF via a single UV source, no need for dual-wavelength control. Fast, reversible, and efficient!
