We report photochromic macrocyclic Y(III) and Dy(III) complexes that switch between merocyanine and spiropyran form. Structural and theoretical studies reveal how these complexes could lead to photoswitchable single-molecule magnets!

We report a light-responsive Eu(III) complex with red luminescence switched ON/OFF via a single UV source, no need for dual-wavelength control. Fast, reversible, and efficient!
