I found this large orange yellow mushroom poking through the leaves and growing under a bit of moss covered grape vine. It was around 20°F . Brrrr!

A freshly-molted Zammara smaragdina cicada in the forest last night at my house. These were plentiful a few months ago when it was warmer, and I was kind of surprised to see one now.

Yesterday I went and visited a friend who I haven’t seen in 15 years. He’s a steward of the national park in Hawaii and lives in the middle of the rain forest.
