I find it's often a parasitical relationship where you have someone typically outside of that games community coming in to farm drama from it. Often done under the guise of preventing future cheating via shining a spotlight but does not since they ultimately benefit from more people cheating.

Added benefit of getting to see people telling on themselves thinking it's for porno.

Also shoutout to the "we made a roguelike out of [gambling game]" trend too, lots of pathetic stuff birthed from that.

Still cannot believe how few people get mad about Ryza 3's radiant quest bullshit putting a timed waypoint onscreen telling you to walk halfway across the map at all times.

Ryza 2 is good though can't believe they got that one right and then fucked up everything it did so well for the third game just incredible trend chasing just to end up as "botw but bad".
