I'm thrilled to announce that my lab has received our first R01 to study mechanisms of astringency transduction and sensation! Totally fitting that my first R01 would bring together two of my loves- neuroscience and wine. We're all so excited to get to study this understudied aspect of flavor.

We had a fantastic seminar by @petukhova.bsky.social and Suzanne Moloney about the genetics of HS last week, highlighting the need for basic science research into HS pain. So much work to be done to understand this prevalent and understudied condition.

Last weekend I wrote a letter to the editor to my hometown newspaper as part of the Sciencehomecoming.com movement.

I will share my letter in this thread, and share my approach to lower the activation energy for y'all to join me.
