@murray.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov, current Democratic leaders in the Senate are not up to the moment. Please show your constituents that you understand the stakes of this fight, and advocate for a change in leadership!
UPDATE — Here are the at least 11 congressional Democrats, 11 Democratic-aligned organizations, and 6 Democratic Senate candidates calling for Chuck Schumer to resign as leader:

I’m starting a BlueSky series titled “Orwell Weeps”.

When a politician says some words which are detached from any commitments — including to empirical reality — and devoid of meaning, I repost and comment: Orwell weeps.
CNN: Was the shutdown worth it?

HAKEEM JEFFRIES: We have waged a battle on behalf of the American people.

CNN: But you didn't get what you want.

JEFFRIES: At the end of the day, the fight lives on.

American political discourse is completely suffused with what I call the Soviet Mind Virus. Roughly, it can be defined as “the belief that functional public services are a direct line to the Gulag.”
Michael Bennet: I really am a Bolshevik. I believe we should provide universal healthcare to all Americans as a right. There is no reason not to do it in the richest country in the world, especially if we can do it at half of the cost of care we are providing now.

Enough is enough. Contact your Democratic senators TODAY and tell them to call for Senator Schumer to step aside as Minority Leader. We desperately need new leadership in the Democratic Party.

The politics of the shutdown:
*GOP had a strong opening position
*Undercut themselves with the RIFs and unnecessary cuts to blue states/SNAP
*Polls showed GOP getting most of the blame, no reason to assume that would change
*Dem centrists then folded on their key issue of ACA subsidies

Worth noting here that @ezralevin.bsky.social is a former congressional staffer and therefore has a better than average understanding of how these kinds of decisions are made.

Is it any wonder that the Democratic Party is so disliked?
Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.

People are going to suffer whether via the SNAP cuts or the ACA. The SNAP cuts are more manageable through civil society organizations and mutual aid. It’s a tragic calculus, but fights always are — and we need to be winning fights. Keep pushing your Senators to hold the line!
Caving now will teach Trump and Republicans that they can win any fight simply by threatening to cause terrible harm to regular people. no possible way that could have future adverse consequences

Jeffries: "These Republicans have tried to repeal the ACA more than 70 different times. They're not acting in good faith in dealing w/healthcare crisis they're visiting on the American people. This is the same group who just enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in history in their big ugly bill."

Takes literal seconds to e-mail your senators via the link in this post. Tell your senators to hold the line!
🚨 We’re hearing that Senate Democrats are on the verge of caving to Trump in another “Schumer Surrender.”

That means your Democratic senators need to hear from you right now.

On her thirteenth birthday in 1938, my grandmother (may her memory be a blessing) returned to her family’s home in Moscow to learn that her father had been arrested.

She walked to every prison in the city trying to find him. She always received the same answer: “No information.”
A man rushed to the Broadview ICE facility searching for his wife. They followed every legal step, but ICE took her into another room and she vanished. He tracked her phone there when the signal died. Police told him to “look up her name online.” He sat in the parking lot, weeping, with no answers.

A simple way to fix this would be automatic voter registration when someone becomes a citizen (and when a citizen turns 18).

I wonder why the regime doesn’t favor that obvious and common sense policy?
🚨BREAKING: A civil rights organization sued the Trump administration Saturday over a new policy barring nonprofits from helping new U.S. citizens register to vote. The lawsuit calls the policy part of a “broader effort to ensure that new Americans cannot exert their democratic will on the nation.”

Scum of the earth.

Also worth noting: this is not ICE. This is CBP.
ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”

He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care

This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person

They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

Spotify is crashing HARD because of the boycott. Their stock dropped 11% in value over the last month. Let’s keep this going!

Tell everyone you know to boycott Spotify. There are plenty of alternatives that don’t run ICE advertisements and screw over artists.

Call your Democratic senators and tell them not to cave on the ACA subsidies. They need to prove they can win political fights!

Chris Murphy: "There will be pretty substantial damage to a Dem brand that has been rehabilitated if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop... if we surrender without having gotten anything, I worry it'll be hard to get them back up off the mat"

The campaign against @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, and the reaction to his election, really highlights three of the major pathologies of American politics: rampant Islamophobia; weaponized and utterly groundless accusations of antisemitism; and corporate control of the DNC.
