For some Americans, foreign actors “stand in the way of prosperity or otherwise corrupt the country,” @yair-rosenberg.bsky.social argues. “But when lashing out becomes a substitute for looking inward, such criticism devolves into conspiracism.”
Blaming Foreigners for American Failings Won’t Fix Them
Railing against Ukraine, Israel, and other outsiders is easy. Solving problems at home is not.

I wrote about how American politicians love to blame foreigners and external actors for domestic problems, and how this often prevents us from understanding the real causes of those problems and solving them. Gift link:

This is a great idea in theory but in practice would incentivize massive voter fraud (speaking hypothetically, for a friend)
what if we had the hot dog for when you go vote instead of a sticker, like in australia

This is refreshing in its unvarnished clarity. No more "Zionists," no more "Frankists," no more euphemisms. Just Jews.

Worth revisiting what I wrote in 2022 after Trump dined with Nick Fuentes. As I said then, all of this was foreseeable:

I wrote about J.D. Vance's bad answer to that anti-Semitic question, and the choices that he and other contenders for the conservative future will have to make about how they treat Jews, antisemitism, and Israel. Gift link:

The vice president will need to choose between accommodating and rejecting the right’s anti-Semites.

FOX just put up a graphic saying that Shohei Ohtani's hard hit percentage is "100th percentile." Apparently, not only does he transcends the normal bounds of baseball, he transcends the laws of mathematics.

"One lesson I learned about running that also applies to writing: The best time to do something important is usually right now. And when you have to get something done in a short amount of time, it’s wise not to spend that time complaining about how little time you have."
I've just written about my intense relationship with my father and how running helped me both connect with him and avoid becoming him. It's my first article ever for @theatlantic.com My dad wrote here in 1967, and it seems fitting to publish this 58 years later.

The Israeli hard right’s "program of unfettered settler expansion and violence, unending war and eventual settlement in Gaza, and no negotiations with the Palestinian Authority is irreconcilable with a more regionally integrated Israel and an expanded Abraham Accords."

Last week, an Israeli far-right politician boycotted Trump's Knesset speech. This week, the far right voted symbolically to annex the West Bank, against Trump's wishes. The Israeli settler right is at war with Trump's Middle East agenda, and the conflict is only going to grow. My latest (gift link):
