The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

“I hear that song,
that unending crescendo, feels like I’m the one who’s unbreakable.“

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jubi Arriola-Headley.

Our condolences to the Miami poetry community and to the many who knew and cared about him.

Always remember: if slavery was so great, they wouldn’t be scrubbing mentions of it from public spaces.

Also remember: as long as there is somebody alive who was told by somebody who was told by somebody who was told by somebody who experienced what we now call history, it will never be erased.

I’ve written and deleted a half dozen posts; there’s nothing sardonic enough, hopeful enough, or despairing enough. It’s all so impossibly absurd.

Wonderful guest essay by Kyle MacLachlan in todays’s NYTimes.

Some excerpts that stood out:

“David didn’t fully trust words because they pinned the idea in place. They were a one-way channel that didn’t allow for the receiver.”

Thank you, David Lynch for widening the field of possibility. You said, “I hate slick and pretty things. I prefer mistakes and accidents” + “It’s so freeing, it’s beautiful in a way when you have a great failure” + opened doors to wondrous + terrible rooms. A companion to my creativity. R.I.P.
