What unifies all great classical geographers is their wingnut prose. If you see a demented sentence like "Southeast LA is divided into three parts, much like Gaul during the reign of Caesar" you'd be forgiven for thinking it was written by someone like Lyndon LaRouche. But nope, it was Mike Davis!

Has anyone done any sort of historical work on the emergence of the term "geographies" within academic geography? When did the plural form begin to take over?

Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

I think what is happening here is that Jackson is doing the 48hr pausing so the First Circuit (hopefully) declines to place a stay pending appeal (which would be a longer stay) and then the Court will be in the tougher position of delaying SNAP for a longer stay period.
#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.
The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.

I don't understand why so many of you have chosen a career that involves teaching college students when you find young people so upsetting. You realize that you can also teach classes for old people, right? There are adults schools and senior centers in every mid-sized town in America.

I've always found the term "former child prodigy" kind of funny. Presumably it means that the person is simply not a child anymore, but the phrasing really suggests that the child suddenly stopped being smart.

Getting more than 50K likes on a single twitter post felt like getting mind flayed. But the threshold for contracting Posters Madness is even lower on here. If I get even 1000 likes on a bsky post, I am exposed to such irritating people that I start speaking in tongues and having eldritch visions.

Every time one of my posts does numbers, I am reminded that bluesky has exactly four different kinds of accounts:
1. Bots.
2. People who cannot read at a 4th grade level but are convinced they are geniuses.
3. People who desperately need therapy (some overlap w/ #2).
4. My followers (normal-ish).

If public universities had been better about holding the line against austerity over the past 15 years, it would have been so much easier to deal with the present assault by the Trump administration. We already cut the fat down to the bone, and now we can't cut any deeper without slicing the aorta.
