Dumping on this scale was not just predictable, but predicted. It's the direct result of:
a. 15 years of austerity
b. Reining in and defunding the regulators at the behest of lobbyists.
But it makes you wonder: were the Tories lobbied by professional crime syndicates? Otherwise, why the hell ...?

The UK government's "pivot to AI" is going to be a disaster for the public finances. They'll spend billions on foreign-owned bullshit, give away all our personal data (Palantir is bidding for NHS England's records—biggest medical data trove in history), but that's not the worst bit.
