I have created a transparent status bar replacement for UZDoom. Even the automap is transparent! It works with Doom, Freedoom, Chex Quest, and Adventures of Square.
If you are playing a supported Doom mapset, different status bar gfx will automatically load, like for BTSX.

I guess it's no secret I'm working on another update to The UnMaking. Nodebuilder improvements mean I can reduce the file size and improve loading times, but it's hard to resist making subtle visual improvements while I'm in there. Prime example from Blast Processing:

recently I've been playing Tom's Halls, an DOOM Alpha/Bible themed communuity project WAD largely based on reimagining the unused maps and textures that trickled out over the years as more id style levels. most of the map design has been pretty incredible both aesthetically and design wise.
