She's "unpalatable" because the Republicans made it so, just as they did with Nancy Peolosi, Hillary Clinton and even Michelle Obama. They've already painted AOC as a "socialist," even though they're OK with socialist Trump controlling the means of production by taking shares of Intel, etc.

One of the saboteurs is Sen. Dick Durbin, the Senate Democrats' No. 2 — literally and figuratively. But I wonder whether his caving was a favor to Chuck the Schmuck, who couldn't take the political heat. Durbin's retiring at the end of his term.

Two of the eight (Jean Shaheen, NH, and Dick Durbin, IL) are retiring, and don't have to worry about primaries. Durbin's the No. 2 Senate Democrat. Others are Hassan (also of NH, a red state), King, purple ME, Kaine, blue VA, Fetterman, PA DINO, and Cortez Musto and Rosen, NV.

By the "⅓ of Americans who get…free healthcare," you must mean the uninsured ones who MUST be treated at the ER, thanks to St. Ron Reagan — 'cause those on the ACA pay premiums partly subsidized, then pay co-pays for limited care.
