Mid-October I was hiking in the #Alps above #Innsbruck. Sky was exceptionally clear and visibility fantastic. #Inn valley covered by a thick blanket of fog. My own photos and #satellite view of 14 Oct 2025 (Credit: European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery). www.copernicus.eu/en/media/ima...

Diese wunderbare Aussicht vom Kalemegdan am Zusammenfluss von Sava und Donau durfte ich vor einigen Wochen ebenfalls genießen.

The almost full #moon appeared somewhat yellowish tonight, as if it was made of #cheese. The view reminded me of an older paper of 1970 by Schreiber and Anderson ("Properties and Composition of Lunar Materials: Earth Analogies"). #astrophotography #nightsky. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

I have friends in Belgrade at the university, whom I visited a few weeks back. They experience such withheld salary payments first hand, but they remain in solidarity with student‘s demands for political changes. In some faculties, student express their criticism in quite creative ways.

Here‘s a Swiss-made variety of the German geological compass that I use. Guide lines at the bottom of the transparent bussola allow plotting measurements on the map quickly. Measuring dip direction and dip angle is known as the „Clar method“, named after Eberhard Clar.

Me standing in front of an outcrop of Carboniferous slates in the Rhenish Massif. Polyedric weathering of the rocks is due to the intersection of three families of mutually perpendicular planes: bedding, cleavage and joints. #Minecraft #geology #structuralgeology #fieldwork

Nice! Can you tell me more about this particular specimen? Are these enterolithic folds in gypsum? Reminds me of deformation features we find in the Permian Zechstein sulfates around here. skfb.ly/oOpoV

Waxing #moon, #Venus and #Saturn (weakly visible) above #Innsbruck (Austria) in the early evening tonight. Pretty bad mobile phone shots from my parent’s balcony. I was using one of my Mom’s flower pot as a surrogate of a proper camera stative.
