As if these guys weren't weird enough, I also find black elfin saddles covered with Hypomyces cervinigenus, a parasitic mold. This one was just off the path in Discovery Part, Seattle.

I recently made a comic complaining that NASA refuses to listen to my good ideas for improving the Solar System (xkcd.com/2750).

To my delight, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate has sent me an actual expert panel evaluation of my “flatten the planets” proposal! Sadly, they decided not to fund it.

Not sure who needs to hear this. Anyway:

Reviewers often do their work in train or airplane seats or similar confined locations. So they like it when figures, captions& associated text are close together in a manuscript.
And authoring technology has sufficiently progressed since the typewriter era.
