New work on on Immigration attitudes, out in @irpp.org with @natashagoel.bsky.social

We show dramatical increase in anti-immigration opinion in Canada over the past couple of years.

Its very different than previous shifts like in 1990s...
In 2015, only 16% strongly agreed Canada had too much immigration. By 2024, that number doubled to 33%.

This IRPP paper by @randybesco.bsky.social and @natashagoel.bsky.social reveals a striking reversal in Canadians’ views on immigration: centre.irpp.org/research-stu...

Another labour market surprise (and another great Labour Force Survey summary from StatCan www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quo...):

Canada's unemployment rate surprises everyone by moving DOWN to 6.5%, driven by a rise in part-time jobs and more youth getting jobs.

A 🧵on what's driving the story.
The Daily — Labour Force Survey, November 2025
Employment increased by 54,000 (+0.3%) in November, driven by gains in part-time work. The employment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 60.9%, while the unemployment rate fell 0.4 percentage points t...

Breaking: The US government.

This is huge
Last year Elon Musk and SpaceX claimed the NLRB is unconstitutional after being accused of labor violations.

Now under Trump, the NLRB is dropping its opposition to this claim.

The labor board will no longer fight in court against the charges that it shouldn't exist.

Does he understand what a 'pause' is? You're paying a massive amount of taxpayer money to a company owned by a high ranking member of a foreign government that is STILL threatening crippling tariffs and talking about annexation.

To supply critical infrastructure they'll hold over our heads.

😬 this just gets worse and worse.
Trump: "I'm going to use economic force to conquer Canada."

Trump: "The Canada-U.S. border is an artificially drawn line."

Trump: "What I'd like to see is Canada become our 51st state."

Poilievre: "I think he just wants us to take border security more seriously guys."

Some context here:

In the U.S. the tariffs are like one of 5 major political stories this weekend.

In Canada they are everything. Wall to wall coverage. The clicks on our tariff copy are setting records - never seen a reaction like this to a single-day news event.
If you’re wondering how big of a deal this is for Canada, the public broadcaster has been live-streaming coverage almost non-stop for the past 11 hours.

By continuing to insult Canadians and threaten Canada’s sovereignty and economy, Trump is simply reinforcing the determination of Canadians and their leaders to stand up to him.

Also, notice what’s not in this message: anything about fentanyl, the stated reason for these tariffs.

The crypto market keeps proving how broken it is. When a single person—or President—can tank everything in minutes, it’s clear there’s no stability or accountability. This isn’t just about volatility; it’s a system built to fail.

Meta is becoming a front line antagonist to the LGBTQ community and they’re utilizing their platform in order to do that.

Using free speech as a shield to harass and antagonize a marginalized community needs to be called what it is, which is harassment.

The disconnect between the headline and the main chart in this article is amazing. Gen Z men have preferences indistinguishable from 2 of the other 3 male cohorts and less pro-Trump than the other one.

Fascinating data otherwise, though.
