NYT’s whistfully longing for ye olde clubby New York, when a gentlemen could beat his servant or assault a chambermaid without some pesky copper or scribe mucking about, or the modern iteration, when a Koch Bro or a Sackler could kill for cash & still get their names on a museum.

The FBI uses a lot of shitty people as cooperators and informants but Trump is a great example of someone they wouldn’t use — a pathologically narcissistic braggart who could never keep a secret or maintain focus. It would be like asking the Trix rabbit to wear a wire.

And if you haven't read this shattering ProPublica piece about the effects of Covid on pregnancies, you should take a deep breath and do so:
“God, No, Not Another Case.” COVID-Related Stillbirths Didn’t Have to Happen.
A lack of testing data and government guidance led many to avoid the COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy, unwittingly increasing their chances of a stillbirth.

I dropped my subscription to @washingtonpost.com late in the election cycle, and I haven't missed it for a minute. My husband and son did the same. If the paper can't retain employees who have integrity, it's well on the way to irrelevance.

The situation in South Korea is amazing. Lawmakers scaled walls to get into the parliamentary building and used fire extinguishers to hold off troops trying to enforce martial law. Looking forward to the impeachment vote later this week. Can we get some of this courage going in Congress?
