Many of us gave our all to this election - but many of us also knew deep in our bones that it’s all about building real social movements. We should be proud and also take from the scale of this victory some much needed clarity: we are in a fascist moment. It is a fight for our lives.

Lots of my conversations about Saving Ourselves (since well before last Tuesday) were about how a Trump election would accelerate our progress towards the mass mobilization that’s needed. This recent piece by @georgemonbiot.bsky.social talks through that path:

The United States’s political tumult has not changed the physics of climate change.

The climate story is only going to get bigger, and it’s journalism's job to help audiences understand why that is happening and, crucially, that it doesn’t have to be this way.

Trump did not cause the climate crisis - it was already locked in. But he will massively accelerate it. On #politicslive yesterday.

Plenty of pundits are telling us “cheer up, Trump’s all hot air. He doesn’t really mean it.” History is littered with such self-deceptions, and they don’t age well. In fact, these confident chin-strokers have often proved to be a major part of the problem.
