Nigel Farage apparently wants to lower the minimum wage for young people to boost aspiration... because we all know that low wages = reach for the stars 🙃

It’s also good to see the MAC acknowledge the necessity of making the Skilled Worker visa more flexible, so that workers can more easily switch between employers.

Every worker deserves the right to leave a bad employer to take their work to one that needs and values them. 4/5

We have warned the Home Office that construction is not suited to sponsorship.

Construction workers often work irregular hours for contractors where oversight of conditions is lax. (Much like the care sector where rampant exploitation went unchecked)

And it looks like the MAC agrees with us. 3/5

Plasterers, floorers, tilers, and painters have been identified as ‘potentially crucial to prioritised sectors’, making them eligible for sponsorship by construction companies.

🚩Migrant workers in occupations won’t have a route to settlement and won’t be able to bring dependants. 2/5

These roles have been identified as ‘potentially crucial to prioritised sectors’.

🚩Migrant workers arriving in the UK to work in these occupations won’t have a route to settlement and they won’t be able to bring dependants with them. In an already precarious sector, this raises red flags.

Labour’s decision to increase English language requirements for migrant workers is legislation focused on optics.

All the data shows this is pointless. Government statistics show the majority of migrant workers already speak English very well.

Great to see our analysis in The Guardian live blog 👀

A warm welcome to Matthew Taylor, who will chair the Fair Work Agency when it launches next April.

In 2021, Matthew was kind enough to support our #NaughtyList campaign to challenge bad behavior at work.

With Matthew at the helm, we hope to see the FWA crack down on lawbreaking employers.

And that's a wrap! We cannot overstate how much the mood has changed this year. With just 5 events focused on migration policy, and Migration Minister Mike Tapp absent from events 👀, we brought migrants' experiences to the table. Read our key takeaways⬇️

100% agree. @barnardos.org.uk & @praxisprojects.bsky.social told #Lab25 that proposals to double settlement requirements to 10 years would push more children into poverty for longer.

Great to hear @chrismurraymp.bsky.social tell a Fabian Society event that the Fair Work Agency will have a real role to play in enforcing the rights of migrants AND that he’s keen to work with us to make that happen ✊

A real pleasure to meet Kate Bell, assistant general secretary of @tuc.org.uk who agrees that migrant workers face additional vulnerabilities, and welcomes working with us to get to an immigration system that treats people with dignity.
September 30, 2025 at 8:39 AM
The recently appointed minister for employment rights @katedeardenmp.bsky.social has said she would be more than happy to meet with us to discuss migrant workers’ vulnerabilities and potential solutions to mitigate these risks.

Kate, we’re already looking forward to it 🙂

At a panel discussion on delivering the 10 year health plan, there’s no mention of migrant workers until we raise it.

@ippr.org ‘s Sebastian Rees @sebrees1.bsky.social agrees that there needs to be a conversation on visa reform because, in the short term, we are reliant on an overseas workforce.

Up first: Labour, Populism and the future of Asylum, hosted by @futuregovforum.bsky.social

There’s agreement on the panel that poverty and social deprivation are the driving factors behind scapegoating migrants and asylum seekers. ‘People are looking for a reason why their lives are getting worse…

We’re here at Labour party conference to make sure the experiences of migrant and disadvantaged workers are included in debate.

Lots of talk of immigration… little talk of migrant workers themselves and the communities they are a part of.

Say hi if you see us! 👋 Evie & Olivia

Here’s the full picture. Referrals = victims who agreed to enter the NRM. DtN = possible victims identified by government-approved first responders, who nonetheless said no to the system. Huge increase in both. So yes, the NRM needs reform, but that’s because victims need protection more than ever.

Making skilled visa workers wait 10 years to apply for settlement would double their time in precarity.

Many thanks to @bengoldsborough.bsky.social for raising the issue of exploitation in yesterday's debate.

This government must not embolden bad employers at the expense of migrant workers.

Tomorrow we're headed to the @neworganising.bsky.social

We'll be hosting two Saturday sessions on how to support visa workers claim their employment rights.

Migrant workers have the same rights as British workers on paper, but in practice these are much harder to enforce - & employers know it!

Congratulations to the new leader of the Green Party @zackpolanski.bsky.social 🎉

Almost 4 years ago, Zack was kind enough to film this video for our #NaughtyList campaign to call out bad employers.

Zack - we look forward to working with you to improve protections for all marginalised workers 🤝

Our latest research is now LIVE 🚨

Following revelations that just 3.4% of exploited care workers got jobs via a £16million government scheme, this research uncovers the systemic barriers that stood in the way of success.

THIS THURSDAY we will publish research that reveals why the government's scheme for exploited migrant carers helped just 4% into new jobs.

Join us for the report launch on 15 July, where we'll be joined by Dr Jane Towson OBE, from the Homecare Association.

We are grateful to Baroness Hamwee for tabling a probing amendment on secure reporting during the Lords’ scrutiny of the Employment Rights Bill.

All workers should be safeguarded against exploitation, regardless of their immigration status.
