Bill Melugin @BillMelugin_ BREAKING: A senior ICE official tells @FoxNews that today, ICE arrested the Superintendent of Des Moines, Iowa Public Schools, Dr. lan Andre Roberts, who ICE says is an illegal alien from Guyana & and active ICE fugitive with a deportation order since May 2024. Fox is told Dr. Roberts fled from ICE agents in his car once they ID'd themselves as immigration agents, speeding away, then abandoning the car. He was found in a brushy area 200 yards away with the help of an Iowa State Police K9. Per ICE official, agents found a loaded gun, a "fixed blade hunting knife", and $3,000 cash in Dr. Robert's vehicle. Per senior ICE official, Roberts first entered the U.S. in 1999 on a F-1 student visa at St. John's University was ordered removed from the United States on May 22, 2024, with proceedings being held in absentia. On April 24, 2025, an Immigration Judge in Dallas, TX denied a Motion to Reopen his immigration case. Fox is told Dr. Roberts also has a weapons arrest in 2020, though the disposition of that charge/case is currently unclear. More details as they come... My emphasis on freedom from fear in the book was not unrelated to observing people who are not free from fear. There is also the extent to which people behind closed doors will say certain things about the current President but not say those things out loud. You have chosen to write a book about liberalism at a time when liberalism is under threat without really talking about what those threats are. It’s more of a positive case for liberalism. Why did you decide to write this particular book? Partly it’s temperamental. Probably that’s the fundamental answer. To say that there are these people and they have names and they are doing and saying awful things would be, for me, unpleasant.

Here's the relevant portion. It's just fully inane - it's the hallmark of an incredibly limited mind. Obviously Obama was not saying "today, in my life, this would have happened to my son." He is imagining a different life he might have lived.

This is "what if you hadn't eaten breakfast" stuff.
And people on the right saw that as, like: Well, but that's not true. You are an upper-class Black man who is living in the White House, and unless your son was mistaken for a prowler going around at night in a neighborhood, then, no, that actually wouldn't happen to your son. In fact, you have two Black daughters, and that stuff has never happened to them.

You don't see anything of value in the way he understands people whom I think you would see sympathetically as suffering, as deserving a higher minimum wage, as deserving health care when they can't afford it? To you, he is just an enemy of Western civilization? Yes. And the reason I say that is because, again, I think that the easy part of all politics and all of human life is to find the places where you think that life has been unfair to people. Because life is sometimes unfair to people. The question is how you direct that. or Has he directed that toward actually building better systems has he spent his entire career yelling at people who have become wealthy? Has he maligned them as morally inferior for having developed wealth? Has he decided that there is a class of people who are the great exploiters in his moral narrative and who must be torn to the ground? Billionaires shouldn't exist.

Every time I see this stuff I'm shocked at how bad an idea this is.

1. The conclusion of this "fight" would help Republicans. Success for this plan would be a short-term victory that unengaged voters don't even notice. And those voters wouldn't see the effect of the coming cuts by election day. 1/
