I remember some years ago George that you referred to the book 'Bureaucracy' by Ludwig Von Mises as providing a stout defence of the role of bureaucrats in complex industries. I was truly astonished, given how right wing he is, economically speaking.

I'd urge anyone reading this to give it a look.

Also as far as I'm aware, it won't end the absolute shambles of rail having to lease trains from a handful of monopolistic rolling stock companies (ROSCO) largely based in tax havens.

In terms of tax, before you even raise one penny of income tax there is £46.8 billion of uncollected tax every single year so there is lots of money lying about to be collected from 'dodgers'

I think that the real reason may be that she's terrified of a Daily Mail headline along the lines of "Labour backs Islamo Communist Hamas supporting mayor", which might lose Labour a handful of the octogenarian Reform voters which seem to be it's main target group at the moment.

This article from the Atlantic is very interesting on the financing of the AI boom. There's a lot of circular investment and more worrying, collateralised bonds packaging together all kinds of debt associated with the creation of data centres (shades of 2008)
