So with GOLDENEYE hitting its 30th I think we can agree it's the platonic ideal of a Brosnan Bond movie, and that's also its biggest problem, because it's entirely symptomatic and emblematic of the whole hideous Cool Britannia deal with its hidebound revival of past glories wearing a new modern suit

I mean, agree with his latter two points.

I've never seen either THE LAST JEDI or THE RISE OF SKYWALKER because the Discourse seemed (and still seems) so exhausting that the only sane course of action was to entirely remove oneself from the equation. I stand by this.

I haven't seen SOLO, but nobody else has either so it doesn't count.
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

Really enjoyed the Wes Anderson archives exhibition, which exposes the exquisite handcrafted quality of not just the production, but also the preproduction materials deployed throughout his films. Also this thing stands over 6 feet tall: it's stunning

Anyone coming to Udo Kier in more recent years could be excused for seeing him only as this magnetic presence commanding the screen, but watch him with the wattage turned right down to the point of unrecognisability in SUSPIRIA and it's his raw talent that shines through. RIP, prince.

Watching 1973 exploitation flick HOLLYWOOD 90028, which contains not only copious nudity but also an extended tour of Los Angeles' Bunker Hill before the last of its slums were cleared, 5 stars

There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

SEE. THIS. FILM.
“U Are the Universe” is a Ukrainian sci-fi tragicomedy made over ten hard years, now in theaters, showing how dreams survive even in dark times.

Much like attempting to rigidly define and categorise genres, trying to identify a single unified theory of cinema is an exercise doomed to people in the replies identifying edge cases that implode your entire thesis.

New Total Perspective Vortex just dropped
Contrary to all those click-baity headlines about how cosmology is "broken," scientists are mostly frustrated that it's *not* obviously broken.

When we can find the real cracks, we'll have a path to deeper understanding. 🧪🔭

Got underseen 1950 Fritz Lang noir HOUSE BY THE RIVER on deck, and I suspect the word "accidentally" in the synopsis is doing some VERY heavy lifting. Also, that's some #MeToo shit right there

I wasn't surprised that the Wes Anderson archives exhibition at The Design Museum sold out on its opening day on Friday or both days of this weekend, but it being sold out all tomorrow morning I didn't expect. Got me a 1430 slot, tho

The disconnect here between on the one hand attempting to disengage from commitments to the global community and on the other attempting to dictate policy at a global level to other governments would be amusing if it weren't both serious and destructive.

The Hitler DNA documentary has gotten juicy; not only have they played the song about him only having the one ball, they've dug out medical records that indicate cryptorchidism and a genetic mutation identified with Kallman Syndrome leading to undescended testicles, micropenis and low testosterone

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

I'm not convinced Amazon's using the most efficient routes for their delivery drivers: this one was 8 stops away an hour ago despite being, conservatively, 200m away and has managed to perform a complete orbit of my address so is now allegedly 1 stop away and back in the same location 200m away

Most countries would erect a little plaque noting the location of a significant event such as a head of state getting his brains blown out all over the leatherette, but in America you get a great big X to mark the spot.
