Oregon just passed a law legalizing camera enforcement of school bus stop arms, and as I was googling to confirm my memory I came across this article about a company that installs them for no upfront cost. 100% legit I assume

Until you look at their numbers and see that they’re driving 1/300 as often as the average human and realize that they’re likely choosing the conditions they’re driving in too. Human crash rates would be lower too if we drove .003 as often and in perfect conditions

Are there any independent, peer reviewed studies of av safety? It seems like the waymo report has pretty big issues with sample size and potentially selection bias. I feel like before we hand our public space over to a corporate robot army we should have someone double check their math at least 😅

Most worrying for the region, there are several instances of weird stones set in concrete, as in the pic below. This is also used in Eugene, and is a serious tripping hazard for pedestrians, on top of reducing the available space for walking.

A difference between robot cars vs. regular cars is that with regular cars, drivers walk to where they park, spreading traffic out.

With robot cars, every event turns city streets into an airport pickup line.

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

You should come to Oregon, where 4 way stops with left turns permitted without stopping at one leg are thrown into the mix
