Basically, none of these places sell essentials you can’t buy anywhere else. Walmart, Amazon, and Target might be trickier, but these shouldn’t be.

Put the money you save not shopping there in your emergency fund.

He baked Oreo cupcakes and frosted them using his sculpting tools, and they looked better than any cupcakes I’ve ever made.

The kid has some serious baking and cooking skills, far beyond what I even had in my 20s.

5. My son’s school had a bake sale this week as part of his Roots and Shoots club, raising money for a jaguar rescue in Puerto Rico (the clubs are part of the Jane Goodall Institute).

Both ways, I didn’t have to wait more than a minute or two. It was great, cost $3 each way, and required no driving or parking (or paying for parking).

More public transportation, please.

4. It’s that time of the year, which meant I had another work holiday event, this one in Seattle. These days, I pretty much never drive into the city, thanks to buses and light rail.

From work, it took a bus & light rail to make my way to the event, and the timing of the transfers was magical.
