#isdn adjecent noob question:

The PDH (T1/E1 and stuff) had this problem that each sender had independent clock, which could be slightly faster or slightly slower than the mux, so after some time it may not have sent the next portion of bits when the mux needs to fill its slot in the frame, or […]

I love how with point-to-point links, you don't actually need an IP address (let alone on-link prefix) assigned to the interface.

IPv6 has three kinds of features:

- those that the spec intended, and work

- those that the spec didn't intend, but they still work

- those that the spec intended, but either nobody implemented, or everyone blocks, so they don't work

What if: IPv6 XMAS packet

uses every extension header possible

if any of those have flags, those flags are all enabled

then the last NextHeader says there's another IPv6 inside, and that one is just as festive

how do I use both ULA and proxy-NDP IPv6 addresses on the same link...

OpenWrt's odhcpd can proxy Router Advertisements and override some of the options, but it won't add extra prefixes that the upstream didn't specify :/

Do I try to use SLAAC for proxied addresses and DHCPv6 for ULA?

Or just […]

[unpopular opinion, in-addr.arpa]

Hosting things on an A record under in-addr.arpa is a fun hack, but it shouldn't be expected to last.

University elective course idea:

IP Networks based on examples from CTF Tasks

you learn how ICMP, NDP, multicast, etc. works by trying to pwn deliberately misconfigured networks and getting score points in return

wait a sec...

the Space Cadet keyboard was using linear hall-effect switches?

Not a fan of linear but like

they were making hall effect keyboards in the 70s, even though there wasn't a broad customer awareness of keyboard switch types?

and nowadays the keyboard manufacturers are only […]

Is there going to be a celebration for 10k RFCs?
December 7, 2025 at 4:19 PM
TIL in 2014, RFC 7136 oficially called the "universal" and "global" bits in the "interface identifier" part of an IPv6 address to be meaningless and said not to worry about them.

Is there an RFC that says which ICMPv6 I must not block and why?

When learning programming, there's a certain phase where you just need to NIH everything, write unnecessary abstraction layers, build intricate object hierarchies, and model external systems within your code.

It's a necessary part of learning.

But later on you learn ways in which you can […]

Linux drivers for gaming-related peripherals be like:

- a relatively good kernel driver that exposes all the useful hardware capabilities through sysfs files

- no documentation for the sysfs files

- a useless userspace daemon that spends thousands of lines of code to provide a D-Bus API that […]
