Some parts of the state are waking up to snow on the ground on this cold November 9.
While not a big snowmaker, it’s the first measurable snowfall across southern Wisconsin, and wind chills have dipped into the single digits and teens across the state.
Stay warm this weekend!

Mild temperatures, low relative humidity, and gusty winds are leading to elevated fire concerns today.
Even though the fuels (grasses, cropland, brush) aren't too prone to catching fire, worsening drought will make them more susceptible.
Be careful with open flames.

Thick frost out there this morning. A combination of yesterday’s rain, the overnight temperatures in the 20s, and - especially over southern Wisconsin - dense fog allowed a thick layer of ice to form.
High wind gusts expected over northern parts of the state - the Gales of November are here.

For a research grade, mesonet-type station, the South Dakota Mesonet put together a pretty good list of site requirements.
This list doesn't include the $$ needed to buy the equipment, of course!

We're kind of excited to hear that people have been opening their kids' Halloween candy to find there are weather stations inside.
Let us know if you want to learn about how to install and care for them (or you can send them to us and we'll make sure they're well taken care of!).

Starting to work on new features for our website, including some almanac-style displays - like this temperature and precipitation calendar for each station.
Each day is colored by the high or low temperature or precipitation amount, while hovering over the day gives you the actual value.

Ok, campers, rise and shine and don't forget your booties 'cause it's coooooold out there!
We can put the growing season to bed statewide (and yes, we know that Door County hasn't hit freezing yet).
Widespread mid-20s last night left a heavy frost.
