MORE: The Kremlin is engaged in a delicate balancing act between feigning interest in negotiations to Trump and conditioning Russian society to accept nothing short of Putin's desired full victory in Ukraine, no matter how long it takes. isw.pub/UkrWar08072025

I can't think of any reason why people would believe this other than that news coverage focuses more on crime than it did 30 years ago.
I do think it's kind of weird America has exploded into a truecrime obsession at the same time actual rates of crime have been plummeting.

Even the COVID spike looks tiny compared to the big picture.

Yup.
Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

It makes perfect sense when you realize that small businesses can't pay meaningful bribes ("favors"), but big ones can.

Trump's policy proposals suddenly seem a lot more consistent and logical if you adopt the premise that he regards the presidency as one big four-year grift. Just a chance to massively enrich himself and his family, and further immunize himself from any possibility of prosecution.

“You know, somebody said, ‘Oh, the shelves are going to be open.' Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls. So maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally.”

I'm trying to imagine the Fox News coverage if Obama had said that.

Why shouldn't iPhones cost $3,500
Lutnick: "We invent the iPhone, which is awesome. Why do we let everyone else build it? Why can't we build it here? ... we need hundreds of thousands of Americans who work in those factories."

Before press came in — but while live feed was running on Bukele’s feed — Trump said to him: “home-growns are next. … You’re gonna need to build about 5 more places.”

It's not insane. This is who Trump is, it's what he's always been, a gaudy, over-the-top real-estate developer who's a genius at promotion and questionable in other aspects of running a business. If anyone thought we were getting anything else for president well, sorry to disappoint you.
Complete batshit lunacy on the president's Truth Social account. Yes, he really posted this.

I wanted to make fun of this, but it's impossible.
Fox News's Jesse Watters criticizes Doug Emhoff for going grocery shopping with Kamala Harris:

“What kind of husband goes grocery shopping with his wife?”

We are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right ... [T]he only check on it is that sooner or later a false belief bumps up against solid reality, usually on a battlefield.”

If he is guilty his two options should be life in prison without possibility of parole or being the president of the united states.
