❤️ metro transit // bloomington, mn!

... - something Bloomington doesn't have the luxury of. Even pedestrians have a tight squeeze between traffic getting off/on the highway and the guardrail - imagine a bike trying to get through! (it's not fun)

The Richfield bike network plugs very well into Minneapolis's extensive system! Not necessarily with "flashy"/the best infrastructure, but seamless connections nevertheless...

Interesting development concept I stumbled upon from 2020 on Lyndale. Wish it came to fruition, but it was canceled due to not reaching an agreement for property acquisition with the city.

On the other side of town, a bike lane (well, "bikeable shoulder") was replaced with a sharrow and a right turn lane... Crazy that intersections are still being redone in the most dangerous ways possible - here on Old Cedar at 86th and at Old Shakopee, and at Xerxes and Old Shakopee.

Woah - a Bloomington bike lane wide enough for the bike lane symbol?

The buffered part is decently wide and it's a significant improvement over what was previously there, even if it unfortunately narrows toward the intersection..

"Just take the sidewalk":

Old Cedar Avenue (East 86th Street to East Old Shakopee Road)
Standard 4-to-3 conversion with decent buffer, but it abruptly ends at the intersection. Also, the bike lane on eastbound 86th was replaced with a right turn lane and sharrow as part of this.. 🧵(3/3)

West 98th Street and Normandale Boulevard
To be fair, this did eliminate four slip lanes and add refuge islands. The buffered part is pretty wide but narrows near the intersection.

By the way, there are 15+ intersections with slip lanes on all four sides in the city, which is appalling. 🧵(2/3)

Expectation vs reality: 700 American Blvd W

Anybody else think this The Boulevard thing looks reminiscent of Centennial Lakes with even more parking?
February 27, 2025 at 10:03 PM
Would we really rather route a regional trail onto an airport access road instead of narrow American Boulevard?

How come we're getting a cycletrack on Nicollet in Richfield and most likely in Bloomington as well, but all @mndot.bsky.social has to offer is a painted line over the freeway they're spending $377 million to widen?
