A BIG question for 2026 is what #DanielleSmith will do about the MASSIVE recall campaign against her #UCP MLAs, and HERSELF.

The EXPLOSION of #recallmovements in ridings ACROSS the province is SURELY the MOST bizarre political story of 2025 in #Canada. 🇨🇦 #Cdnpoli

another favorite insult during the Prenda Saga. Prenda’s lawyer was arguing - technically - to the 9th Circuit about sanctions against them and one of the judges (Pregerson?) does this:
Pregerson: You’re a good attorney
Lawyer: thank you your honor
Pregerson: it says so right on your web site
Most understated, proportional, & well-earned take down: A man & a woman lawyer were on the same side in the Ohio Supreme Court. When the Chief Justice called the woman to the podium, the man stood up & said that they’d divide time but she’d go first. The Chief deadpanned, “That’s why I called her.”
What's an insult you'll never forget?

I can handle people advocating for a totalitarian society with outcomes precisely like their idiosyncratic prejudices.

I just can’t handle people who are so insufferably pretentious about how they get there.
I had missed this latest delirium by Adrian Vermeule on birthright citizenship

'Common law?! NAH, it's the Roman law of adoption that should govern the interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution!'

The recent Compact piece about discrimination against white men argued that European white men were exempted for fairly implausible reasons (trust me, hiring committees are not aware of IPEDS), while not entertaining the more plausible explanation that larger talent pools create more competition.

1. We have actual government healthcare in the US, which is the VA; it works better than our more privatized counterparts.
2. The DMV varies a lot, but many of them have really improved their services over time. The stereotype has incredible staying power.
Guy who has never set foot in an American DMV: they haven’t even been updated since the 1970s

Here's the deal, says USDOJ to states: we're going to send you lists of voters we think are ineligible, and you're going to take them off the rolls. I think the ICE agents work hard and deserve a nice little Kavanaugh Snack, as a treat
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

I see this on the right - the idea that the existence of foreign academic staff and faculty are evidence of discrimination against natives. It's not discrimination, its selection: academia is a global marketplace, the US is the biggest center of that market. So yes, some foreign talent will win.
Striking nativist editorializing by the federal judge who just upheld the $100,000 tax on high-skill immigrants.

She opines that it’s “troubling” that universities hire talent from abroad at all, instead of only native grads.

Then admits (!) that opinion is irrelevant (So why write it? Venting?)

I’ve never seen Rubio as anything more than a groveling toady.
