Housing policy with CMHC. Industrial strategy with Government of Canada. Municipal & climate finance with FCM. And whatever else catches my eye today.
These types of things will make a radical out of me

Amidst all the awful of recent years, glimmers of hope remain. Amazing.

I’ve worried for a while that AI slop would get added to the NIMBY playbook and hoo boy are we unprepared for it
So: the “Protect Bathurst / Dufferin” astroturf campaign run by Summerhill Market had videos of a guy talking about the neighborhood & RapidTO proposal. Real grassroots feel. Took a screenshot & put it into google image search. Guess what?

I am adding this to the list of “Canadian institutions that aren’t ready for what’s coming”.
Top notch work by the debate commission. Didn’t even know Rebel is registered to influence the campaign. But also, what the fuck did you think they were about? What an embarrassment. ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en/news/...
Debates commission unaware Rebel News registered as advocacy group, official says | RCI
Right-wing media including Rebel News dominated post-debate news conferences.

This will inevitably get overshadowed by tariffs and the rest of the current mayhem but holy hell is this wild

If we were already in a housing crisis (we were), what would this count as?

Double crisis? Mega crisis? Existential crisis?
CMHC housing data released. Housing starts in Ontario down almost 40% in Q1 this year relative to last year.

Alberta had more starts, in absolute terms, than Ontario.

1. These are great and should be implemented across the network!
2. I love seeing civic groups take matters into their own hands
3. Shame on the TTC for letting it come to this
Volunteers gave King Station a makeover this morning! You shouldn't get lost while taking the #TTC. Learn more and show your support for better TTC information and signs: www.ttcriders.ca/wayfinding

With no disrespect to Kamala, we missed out on a real one with VP Walz.
Walz: "It's so obscene that he would put a mock classroom -- we all know he's never been in one. He wouldn't last for a minute. He's surrounded by people who know nothing about education. They want to make this about bureaucracy and cutting. This is about children."

Fantastic. Like the Australia-Canada radar deal, more of this please. (Especially where we’re the supplier, not just the buyer).

One of the lost remarkable traits of this generation of right wing fascists is how incredibly soft they all are

Absolutely spot on… the way these dynamics are ignored in so much of the housing policy chatter drives me absolutely nuts.
Just read another housing paper trying and failing to explain gentrification and getting bogged down talking about everything from Thatcher and Reagan era disinvestment to the fall of the Soviet Union. Then they claimed las use was a blocker being dismantled to make way for gentrification. Sigh.

“May you live in interesting times” currently feeling like more of a threat

Obviously the first half is the true despicable act but the performative hustle culture BS of the latter is really driving me nuts
DOGE cut off payments for the electricity, cell phone, and internet service of U.S. government employees who work in a high-risk area in Central America.

Meanwhile, DOGE apparently plans to spend $25,000 to install a washer and dryer for their own personal use in a federal office building in DC.

The world ain’t all bad news. This was an amazing initiative to be a part of. And there’s lots more to come!
Canada has released it's "Housing Design Catalogue" which includes 50 middle-housing designs from ADUs to six-plexes.

Each design is developed by local architecture & engineering teams to align with regional building codes, planning rules, climate zones, construction methods & materials. 🇨🇦

Picking Quebec as the first stop on the US annexation tour - a place known for its openness and warmth to hostile English speaking powers - is certainly a choice.
Marco Rubio will be in Quebec City 🇨🇦 Wednesday-Friday (March 12-14). Given the 🇺🇸 egg shortage, please place however many dozen eggs you can afford in a very hot place until March 11th and then hand-deliver them to the USA Secretary of State. Let the Trade War and threat of annexation yolk be on him.
