Of course, which is why I reserve a special level of dislike for anyone who said it

In my experience this is what many Brexit supporters have been saying in private for years (‘the economic cost was worth it in exchange for sovereignty…’) so good to see it going public.

Completely agree. But it’s The Times, what would you expect?

It's particularly fascinating given that just 1.2 million people (about 2% of the adult population) put more than £12,000 a year into a cash ISA. A lot of them are over 65 so will retain the £20,000 allowance. There are perhaps 600k to 800k people directly affected...

Would love some in-depth numbers on what the majority of 20-30 somethings basically paying a 9% higher marginal tax rate has actually done to economic behaviour. Feels very under-discussed bsky.app/profile/igma...
Student loan repayment thresholds frozen for a further three years.

Because in real terms after inflation your £20,000 is now worth about £25,500

If you put money into a cash ISA at any point in 2020, 2021, or 2022 'to keep it safe' at the best available rate for whatever period, you will have lost money in real terms over 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years.
