It hovered and looked at me for a few moments, then swooped out towards the city. I was left looking at the beautiful silhouette of Mt. Hood, and a new day rising.

After a little bit of conversation, I suddenly heard Walter (my cat) chatting up a storm. Not a bird call, but little meows. He hopped up near me, and as I looked up, I saw a hummingbird just above a nearby tree. A spot I hadn’t seen a hummingbird before.

My grandmother passed away on Sunday after a year and a half battle with cancer. During the hospice process, she told our family that she would come back as a hummingbird.
On Monday morning, I let my cat out and sat in my family’s backyard, gazing at the sunrise. And I started to talk to Grandma.
