Cast iron route to entrenched social disadvantage
So what should schools do about this?

1. Don't fixate on grades. They dont matter as much as we're told.
2. Prioritise fostering warm, supportive relationships between staff and students.
3. Create an interesting, relevant & challenging curriculum.
4. Foster a love of learning

on Ditching Revision massively shaped my GCSE teaching.
I’ve Spent 2 days revising with Yr11 this week & couldn’t help but hear her voice:

I have done an OAT Maths curriculum update in a while, what with not really going to the other place much. We’re getting close to finishing the five years now. Just released GM8 Surface Area and Volume and a gorgeous unit* on quadratic graphs and equations (A12).

*Yes, I mean gorgeous.

Aside from the pointlessness of showing kids a fictional drama rather than actually doing some legislating, I find it fascinating that officials thought that the barrier to showing a 4hr Netflix drama in school was the subscription, and not a spare 4 hours to show it. www.lbc.co.uk/news/uk/adol...

Netflix's hit show Adolescence is to be shown in secondary schools, the government has confirmed.

In the light of the brilliant @schoolsweek.bsky.social investigation today here's piece by me on the question as to whether SEND identification and intervention is useful.

Is it useful?
In 1429 a French peasant with no military experience led an army against the Anglo-Burgundians, driving them from their bastion and forcing them to retreat across the Loire River. At the age of thi…

You ever hear a story and think "No, that can't be true, I'd have heard that before, surely?" A story so remarkable you think "If that were true someone would have made a film out of that." Well, meet Betty Robinson, the winner of the first Women's Olympic 100m final.
