Yeah, no, fuck those people. You're right that, to the extent there are better and worse times to get things like neurological disorders, this is not a great time. Even medical providers fuck off for the holidays (sometimes without coverage).

I promise it isn't you. It truly is just the nature of the beast, especially when it isn't people you know well and are emotionally invested in the relationships yet. Remember, we all put up with nonsense at various times, but our group lasted because we had relationships we were maintaining, too.

The bigger issue is that a certain number of us folks under 45 consider democracy in the US dead already. Another issue is that "objective" indicators of the economy don't always translate into economic stability for real people. And a third is that there are more issues than just the economy.
