It's bizarre to concede Democrats were "winning the politics of the shutdown" but "didn't have a strategy." The strategy was to win the politics.

Also, frankly, there’s not a lot of indication that economic and cost dissatisfaction is coming from lower incomes rather than middle and higher incomes. There’s this weird assumption that if people are unhappy it must be the working class. But poor sentiment is shared across the income spectrum.

A few years ago there was a terrible Gen Z tweet everyone dunked on about how people should get their car insurance payments back if they don’t use it. Anyway it’s fun to discover this is now the stated position of the GOP

Hahahahah they were just playing a trick on us where they’d pretend to fight back until we voted for them, and then immediately cave www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Indeed the conclusion tries to tiptoe around this by saying income growth is “not as strong as it appears,” and the the bottom 50 percent “may” fall behind in the future. As in, they are not currently falling behind. As in, “we wanted a certain conclusion and the data didn’t support it.”

Personally I think it's good to have graphs that measure the economy, so we can know how many people are experiencing personal starvation, and whether that number is going up or down.

Reducing spending on a major category of household good that no one can avoid by EIGHTY PERCENT is a huge advancement in material prosperity. But the left, which is theoretically focused on material prosperity, has trained itself to see any reference to growing prosperity as a rhetorical trick

Homeownership rates for young people are the same as in the late 80s. In other age cohorts, the vast majority of Americans own a home.
“I will never be able to own a home,” is a popular thing to say on the internet but there is zero evidence it’s true of most people.

What drives me absolutely insane about this debate is how claims like “there has been a generational stagnation of purchasing power” have taken on the tenor of religious faith among progressives, and seemingly cannot be disproven with any evidence, no matter how overwhelming. It simply isn’t true!

Democrats now opening up a gap on the generic ballot as the shutdown drags on.
The Democrats: "oh no oh no we're so scared, we need to give them a deal, make sure this doesn't happen again until after midterms"

I just keep reading this. It’s perfect. The speaker. The quote. The choice to use the verb “confessed.” The deeply suspicious em-dashes.
