I think this is a really good point. It is why gangs form, though I'm sure there are significant differences (like not having a stable family to begin with). If they can't belong to MAGA, where can they belong?

I'm not aware of any mass exodus from the GOP, and this might be a factor.
Some comments on an article about politics: Person 1: "Put it this way: other than occasional postings from disgruntled or bewildered Republicans, is there any solid evidence of a mass exodus from the GOP?" Person 2: "Nope. In all the articles I have read where some trump voter is getting screwed, not one has regretted their vote for trump. There is always some kind of rationalization. “Sure, we lost our farm, but we still believe in what he is doing.” Why would someone do that? I think maga provides a sense of identity, a sense of community and belonging, a sense of purpose. My wife works with the homeless / addict community where we live. People from that community — and it is a community — will not go to rehab, because if they get clean, they will have to find another community. No one wants to do that. Fear of being outside the tribe outweighs doing what is best for yourself. I think the in case of gop, someone who leaves the gop needs a place to go to — one that they can see themselves going to and one that will provide the same sense of community and identity as where they are. They need to have confidence that if they leave their current tribe they will be welcomed in a new one. We are not providing that at all. And so no one is leaving the gop."

Yes, I would attribute it more to incompetence, deliberate unwillingness to upset the status quo, whatever before malice in that administration.

This administration doesn't really have a reason why not to, unless they're preserving themselves.
