Interesting take on making money from banning books. It's always about money.
NEW: As Texas school districts scramble to comply with a new state law banning "indecent" and "profane" library books, one startup is cashing in.

I dug into tens of thousands of dollars in contracts between the company and Texas public schools. Here's what I learned: 🧵

Kinda insane that this is the first I even heard of this guy... and the information backs this up.

(Though this is outdated, as he was arrested over 2 years ago and -- more importantly -- convicted)

Prosecutors have not filed a *single* criminal charge against anyone arrested that night:

In 2019, motor vehicle crashes cost America $340 billion. Approx 26% of these accidents were caused by speeding (a historic low), which amounts to about $88 billion.

Would conservatives be as interested in being as hard on speeding as on illegal immigration? Both are civil infractions.

The IRS is reportedly not offering its Direct File program next year. Here’s a look back at how TurboTax owner Intuit spent two decades fighting to prevent Americans from filing their taxes online for free:

Inside TurboTax’s 20-Year Fight to Stop Americans From Filing Their Taxes for Free
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise.

Tyranny doesn’t steal power all at once. It starves it, vote by vote, truth by truth, until silence feels normal. Today, we still have a voice. Use it before legitimate elections become a memory whispered about in the dark. #Vote

Just a thought - maybe we should be writing our (Republican) reps about this one:

“We got everything done,” he added, “I said, ‘Put it all into one bill and if we get it done, we’re done for four years.’ We don’t need anything more from Congress.”

Maybe their self-preservation will kick in.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

AFAIK, even though Republicans control all branches of government, a normal bill requires 60 votes in the Senate.

However, Republicans can use (and have used) the reconciliation process to pass with a simple majority.

Why aren't they doing that?

I think this is a really good point. It is why gangs form, though I'm sure there are significant differences (like not having a stable family to begin with). If they can't belong to MAGA, where can they belong?

I'm not aware of any mass exodus from the GOP, and this might be a factor.
