No one will see this cuz I haven’t been here to build my algorithm-input cred, but—

It’s funny to see disparaging comments of “Them No Kings protesters are old!” assumed to be about Boomers.

My Darlings, the pics I’ve seen are mostly GenX. We’re out there countering our cowardly, racist age-mates.

Also, it was a good afternoon. Connected with a local Ukrainian woman, and gained a new circle of friends.

We had the kind of convos I find *really* hard to have with most others.

We’ll be meeting up every week or so.

Y’now what tastes good at the end of a hot, stressful work week slathered in dread and lightly peppered with some of the creepiest not-quite-nightmares I’ve had in a couple years?

Applesauce.

The whiskey—in a separate mug—is also tasty.

My brain connected Spider Web with “You don’t have the cards!” and came up with Ukrainian Gambit.

Somewhere, someone wrote that the current state of US affairs could teach folks what it was like to grow up with an alcoholic parent.

It’s true.

That snapped me into realizing my folks aren’t ignoring or dismissing current catastrophes. They’re just repeating what they did to survive childhood

Update: I stumbled onto It Lives Inside, and it was *exactly* the wonderful horror flick experience I wanted.
I, too, had come to the Sky to seek recommendations—in my case, a particular kind of horror flick—today.

But I read this first, and am wondering if I’ll be more entertained or annoyed should I get the same result.
*gazes sadly at the replies piling up* My friends, I love you all, and if the fate of the world ever hinges on the ability to follow instructions, we are doomed as a species.

This.

It isn’t any more complicated than this.

Quit trying to come up with some complex multi-layer faux strategy to mimic how the right appeals to the personality baseline of terror and sadism.
Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

This shall be the first of 3am Remembrances.
Broke my nose while dancing to “That’s Not Her Style” with my then four-year-old. I leaned forward as he jumped up.

Husband took me to the ER. My story sounded so stupid, they separated us to assure me I was safe if he’d actually hit me. We appreciated the concern!

My nose is still…slightly askew.
What's the stupidest way you've hurt yourself?

Oh I'm so glad you asked! I knocked myself out with a frozen bag of omelettes.

"Peaceful vibes" all around I guess.

P. S. Dear West, russia has no interest in peace. Only the destruction of Ukraine. We won't agree to that.
Can we please move on, thank you.
Now... More sanctions on russia and more aid, please, and thank you.
Note that I said thank you.

It does my heart good to see my son @devinsanluis.bsky.social happy. Working with @ukrainianana.bsky.social is good for Ukraine, and good for the soul.
What did I miss in Istanbul "negotiations" circus?
Russians threatening to kill more of our loved ones? To take my Kharkiv? Saying they are prepared to fight forever and send a million more of their people to die?
Sorry, was too busy having a good time with @devinsanluis.bsky.social

Alas, doesn’t look like I’ll make 4th Street this year.

Between changing “home base” twice in three months, tariff-inflicted work upheavals, my folks’ needs, and lacking a reliable Bean-sitter at a time when Bean obviously needs familiarity…

It’s just too much right now.

I love and miss you all.

I just randomly remembered Black Cherry Ice Cream, and it’s been years since I’ve had it, and now I want a follow and that would be a very bad idea because I’m in the mood to eat it straight from the carton so I’ll go clean the bathrooms instead.

Daisy Amazing passed away yesterday morning, snuggled in my arms.

She was brave and soft and joyful and tough and beloved and, for such a little girl, filled so many hearts.

And I miss her very, very much.

Me and @devinsanluis.bsky.social did our first interview in the burned ruins of my father's house 2 years ago.
This interview mostly is about relevant events and how I feel bout today's American administration and Ukraine's position in this wild fucking reality we live in.

Someone joked I should write a memoir, but really—all it would be is telling ya I have an amazing kid, been honored to care for six remarkable dogs and an unusual cat, and oh yeah I got a job running booze companies…then 50 years’ worth of embarrassing moments that still haunt me at 3am.

I hear a certain people say of supply chain, “Even if things get bad, we’ll bounce back—like after covid!”

And know the intense work, scramble, international collaboration, and basic good intentions that the recovery required was invisible to most folks.

And the last two listed don’t exist now.

Visited 113 Brigade with @devinsanluis.bsky.social in Kharkiv region. To speak with the people who defend us from russian drone terror attacks daily. We owe them our lives, literally. Got them the power station. But I want to do a big fundraiser for them soon.

Just once, I’d like to see a reporter trained in dementia behavior interview the regime leader, and intersperse voiceover of their methodology.
Leader: I saw pictures!
Reporter: I’m sure you did. That’s good.
Voiceover: Many dementia sufferers can no longer identify or recall individual names.

I love that a friend answered my photo of Snoop as a pink bunny holding a basket of eggs with one of Willie Nelson doing the same.

This is Daisy.

She is sixteen years old.
She’s been a tri-pawed since age twelve.
She is almost completely deaf.
She is partially blind.
She LOVES snuggles.

And she wants everyone to know she is SO OVER the whole “getting her fur trimmed for summer” thing.

Yep.

And it is quite impossible to explain to someone who thinks they just fine that maybe—maybe—this contributes to their anger and confusion.

You don't believe in your own death until you have a truly close call, I think.

It's worth noting that we live in a time and country where battle mortality is extraordinarily low, and maternal mortality is much higher than it needs to be.

And I have a lot of thoughts about what this does to us.
Reading a book abt WW1 that quotes Freud- I paraphrase- nobody believes in their own deaths, and so (on the battlefield) we are turned into spectators (again this is a paraphrase). I’m listening to this book and I had to stop immediately at this section.

Demanding U.S. importers pay a tariff on goods from island-dwelling penguins is without a doubt miserably humorous, but don’t miss the three key things it tells about this regime:
