I wanted to introduce myself. I’m an Art Director and designer with 17+ years in #kidlit publishing. I left Clarion/Harper almost 2 years ago to become a freelance AD for smaller indie publishers. Clients include Charlesbridge, Nosy Crow Inc., Bala Kids, and Abrams. I work on PBs and GNs mostly.

A good look at the Harper AI deal. I agree with Authors Guild that the split should've given more to the author, or the deal should've gone toward the original advance. I know it wasn't in the original contract, but contracts can be amended. #writers

Even people with deep publishing experience get confused about the roles in #kidlit publishing. I use a filmmaking analogy to build a bridge.

Book Editor = Producer
Art Director = Director
Book Designer = Film Editor
Author = Screenwriter
Illustrator = Actors, Cinematographer, + EVERYTHING ELSE
