“Love is a ghost train rumbling through the darkness” - Counting Crows, ‘Ghost Train’

happen to catch one of those passing by while rumbling through the darkness myself during a light snow a few weeks ago.

A couple more shots of the barred owl I saw yesterday…

New Year, new me.

Technically, it’s more like ‘old me’… but being back to being that person feels pretty new.

Got out with the camera yest for the first time in ages. Nature came ‘round to welcome me back. Even this barred owl popped by to say hello.

Let’s GO, 2026. It’s gonna be a good year.

Me in 2025: I’m never leaving my room again.

Maybe we should put a wooden stake through 2025 just to be sure.

New York City Marathon today.

It has taken an entire year of not training, but today, I move another step closer to achieving my lifelong goal of never running a marathon.

I accidentally took the wrong drink at Dunkin’ Donuts this morning and didn’t tell them.

Am I going to hell? Or just prison?

It’s really all about how you put things.

If you say “Jeffrey Dahmer murdered his boyfriend and then ate his face,” well, that sounds sort of bad.

If you put it as more “one man’s brave journey to find healing after a loss by switching to the Keto diet,” it sort of takes the edge off, ya know?

If I treated someone horrifically… I dunno… maybe this is just me… but I don’t think I would write a book that made it sound like I was off in Tibet on a brave solo climb up Mount Healing during the period when I was severely abusing them. Probably just me.

For nearly ten years now, I’ve been asking people to share One Good Thing from their week.

This week, I need to ask people to be the One Good Thing in mine.

When someone who made a life of profiting from inhumanity is themselves on the receiving end of inhumanity, I don’t lose my humanity in response.

I acknowledge an act of inhumanity has occurred and will now cause suffering by people not party to it.

Then I return to places where humanity exists.

That moment when your son just started his senior year of high school… and then you see a Cheerio under the sofa… and it flashes you back to 15 years ago - which was also just 15 minutes ago… and then you’re singing Cat’s in the Cradle and hugging the Cheerios box.

Tell me something good.

What good thing happened in your life this week?

Find something shiny to share. Even if it’s just the dime you found in the dryer.
