A disastrous consequence of a culture reserving its greatest rewards for commentators with the most pungently expressed opinions is how hard it becomes for them to climb down. Donald Trump is beating the drums of war against oil-rich Venezuela — unilaterally closing its airspace, deploying warships and warning of ground operations.

I’m standing with MPs, trade unionists and activists to say: No war on Venezuela.
