Hey Bluesky, I'm Kevin Richardson, a hobbyist game dev. After working with arcade games (a Pac-Man Vs. cabinet, Mega Man pinball retheme, and other projects) I'm creating my own, called "Giant Bug Attack."
I'll probably talk about game design, pixel art, media, and being a dad. Also, dad jokes.
1980-2020:
We will hide the microphone. It will be held just offscreen. Or it will be hidden in hair or a shirt collar. Or headworn and custom-colored to the presenter's skin tone. There is no mic. You see nothing.

2020-Present:
Look at my microphone. It is comically huge or comically tiny.

Galloping Ghost today with the progeny to celebrate the end of the school year. She learned Ryu's special moves, heard Magneto say "Welcome to Die!," got dragged into the lava in Joust. All the important arcade stuff.

This is so incredibly true. Spring Break when I was a student? Felt like forever. My daughter's Spring Break? I blink and it is over.
Not advice but a warning: In your 30s, your perception of time will speed up exponentially (unless you are miserable). Whole days feel like maybe 4 hours long. I've lived in Finland for a whole year and it feels like maybe 6 months. I'm HURTLING towards oblivion, somebody pump the brakes PLEASE lol
If you’re over 30, quote this with some life advice 🤌🏼

I've long dreamed of building/converting an old electromechanical pinball with ROTG's art style and calling it "The 'Gator" as if this was a sequel to a lost physical machine. Love this game. HAL were the masters of early video pinball.

When I made my first Amazon order in 2004 I was thankful for the opportunity to access niche books. In 2025 I'm thankful my family is cutting Amazon completely out of our lives- no shopping, no streaming, no devices. In 2004 I didn't know the word "technofascist"... in 2025 I do.

Eliminating Head Start would be devastating for 800,000 kids and their families who rely on it for early education, health services, and family support. We can't sacrifice their future to fund tax breaks for the rich.

Over the course of my life I've been willing to die on the hills of so many unimportant opinions. Kind of proud that "empathy is good" is the take that will probably do me in.

The dialogue in Castlevania: Nocturne is so exceptional. And talk about good timing. Who knew a series about well-intentioned people fighting overwhelming corruption would be so cathartic in 2025?

Most recent project: a pair of Xbox 360 Hori EX2s modded with new sticks (Seimitsu LS-56 with octo gates) and buttons (Sanwa OSBC). Art is taken from an old half moon table they eventually will sit on, currently being restored.

Only bought four albums on this, the Bandcampest of Fridays. I am a paragon of restraint.

My recommendation on this Bandcamp Friday: The recently released Midwinter Swimmers by The Innocence Mission. Their relentlessly gentle music is often a comfort to me, and this album, in these times, is no exception.

Discussions of the Nintendo Alarm Clock (Alarmo) are going to be hilarious. But real talk? It is like they made a product specifically for my daughter. Already ordered.
Can't wait for someone to ask "What's that noise?" so I can respond:
"Remember the Alarmo"

Apparently the key to get Blindside's "A Thought Crushed My Mind" on streaming was me finally buying a physical copy. Sorry for waiting 24 years. Go listen to a great album! open.spotify.com/album/3NFHuI...

I've always denied that video games affect real-life decision making but the Nintendo menu music to Brazilian jazz/bossa nova pipeline has changed more lives than you might expect. In fact, I have a confession to make.
