Your angry 2k words made me wonder if the Big 18 is about to make the same mistake the ACC did under John Swofford when the league signed an absurdly long TV deal for chump change.
I dunno but I filed an angry 2000 word column about it that will run tomorrow morning
How ugly will the Big 10 PE deal get before it’s all over?

Right now it’s the same temperature in Green Bay, Wisc., and in Athens, Ga.

I think @sarahspain.com and crew were a little too kind about this in this morning’s pod.
From @theathletic.com: A memecoin — Green Dildo Coin — and it's community are responsible for some of the disruptions at WNBA games.
The group's coin was created the day before the first incident, and as of Thursday, its worth had nearly tripled in one week.
WNBA sex toy incidents may be linked to cryptocurrency group’s money scheme

Leaving aside all the fallacious reasoning in @theathletic.com article, this doesn’t sound like that great of a won/lost record. @thomaswheatley.bsky.social @kristaldixon.bsky.social @crystalhill.bsky.social

Yeah, not sure a Beyoncé concert is the right comparison…
First impression: Wow, that's an empty stadium.

I'm not sure if there's much research on the influence of the crowd, but having a packed stadium has to count for something.

Second impression: This is going to be a long Nike commercial. (No surprise there.)

I had one interaction with Bob Morse when he was considering ranking college athletic departments. He had no clue about sports, and I don't think he has any clue about education. Yet his arbitrary formula causes colleges to change policies, amend hiring practices, and screw kids over in admissions.

And to think the NCAA and Adidas went toe-to-toe over whether the three stripes exceeded size limits on uniform logos…
The reason it hasn’t happened yet is because Nike and adidas won’t let it happen. They feel they’ve paid too much money to share space with another brand.

The second they permit it, they’re happening
How far away are we from uniform ads in major college sports?

Given the House settlement, feels more like a "when" than an "if"

What happens when I get distracted: In half a century, U.S. high school #soccer grew 680% and is now the fourth most popular sport in the country, per @nfhs_org.

This pod has a really good explanation of why the House settlement includes roster/scholarship limits, but it also makes it clear that the @ncaa.bsky.social still faces a decade of litigation as it continues to avoid developing a new model for college sport.
Women’s college sports are about to experience a sea change - sports law specialists Kelleigh Fagan & Alicia Jessop join to talk about how House v. NCAA will impact women athletes & the surprising way NIL oversight mirrors a legendary Inside Amy Schumer sketch.

Ced Dempsey was the last NCAA president to come from the world of college athletics, and did his best to balance commercialism and education in college sports. The lede of my profile of him for The Chronicle:

Good man. Tough job.

Rest in peace.

What do we want American higher education to be?
If college athletics are the actual front porch of the university, it's time to use it.

If ope.ed.gov/athletics goes down, reach out to me for Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act data from 2002-3 to 2023-4. These are athlete participation and expenditure records for U.S. colleges and universities; they aren't ideal for financial analysis) but can be useful.
